The McGowan Labor Government announced phase one of the Public Sector Renewal today, which reduces the public sector government agencies by 40 per cent. The amalgamations will result in 41 departments being reduced to 25.
The announcement is over and above the government’s pre-election commitment to reduce the size of the public service by 20 per cent.
The WA Labor Public Sector Policy argues that in order for WA to move forward, an internal assessment and restructure is required to restore an effective, functional and well-resourced public sector.
The government says it will consult with stakeholders to accomplish these changes and ensure a smooth transition. It acknowledges that delivering on these changes will be an ongoing process.
Campaign Capital will provide further updates and commentary as more information becomes available.
